Rich Knipping grew up in Winterport Maine outside
of Bangor. As a child he spent his summers and school vacations
on Moosehead Lake where his grandparents ran a set of sporting
camps. It was here that he started snowmobiling around the age
of 5 on a 1972 Ski-doo Elan. He has been riding snowmobiles
ever since.
Rich graduated from Hampden Academy in 1994 and
went on to Springfield College where he graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Biology. He started school
in September 1998 at New York Chiropractic College where he went
year round to graduate in December 2001. He is currently
employed at Hoyt Chiropractic Center in Winthrop Maine and
resides in Monmouth.
For the past 5 years Rich has averaged around
3500 miles of riding each season with the majority of it coming
from Quebec. Last years total was just shy of 4000. Most of
his riding is done with a few close friends including Dana
Blackstone, Rob Gardiner, Mike Hoyt, Ryan Chamberland and his
wife Amanda.
Rich's background includes alpine skiing, winter
camping, strength training and nutrition. He also dabbled in
Motocross Racing growing up as well.
He is excited at the opportunity to compete in the Cain’s Quest
Adventure Race in Labrador and feels that Team Maine can be
competitive in the Adventure Race arena.
